Cold Store Technician-96 Hours

Cold Store Technician-96 Hours

1. Introduction:

Cold storage systems play a vital role in preserving agricultural products, dairy items, meat, medicines, seeds, and other temperature-sensitive materials. Modern cold storage facilities depend on refrigeration systems, electrical control systems, compressors, evaporators, condensers, insulation systems, and monitoring devices to maintain proper temperature and humidity conditions.

Improper operation or poor maintenance of cold storage systems can lead to product spoilage, energy loss, equipment damage, and major financial loss. Therefore, trained cold storage technicians are essential for safe operation, preventive maintenance, trouble shooting and efficient energy management of refrigeration systems.

This training focuses on practical and technical knowledge related to refrigeration principles, cold room operation, electrical control systems, compressor maintenance, safety standards, and troubleshooting practices used in industrial cold storage facilities.

Major problems are facing cold store-related industries in Nepal:

  • High product spoilage and storage losses due to improper operation, poor temperature control and inadequate maintenance of refrigeration systems.
  • Frequent equipment breakdowns caused by lack of preventive maintenance, weak troubleshooting capacity and insufficient technical skills of workers.
  • High energy consumption and operational costs due to inefficient system operation, poor insulation management and lack of energy-efficient practices.
  • Shortage of skilled and competent technicians in refrigeration, electrical control systems, and cold chain management to handle modern cold storage technologies.

Rational:

This curriculum is designed for existing workers engaged in refrigeration, cold storage operation, electrical maintenance, and industrial services to upgrade their technical skills and competencies according to modern industrial requirements through practical and competency-based training.

2. Benefit:

The primary benefit of this training is improved efficiency, reliability, and safety of cold storage systems. Proper maintenance and operation reduce breakdowns, preserve stored products, and improve energy efficiency.

Additional benefits include:

  1. Reduction in refrigeration system failures
  2. Improved temperature and humidity control
  3. Enhanced safety awareness among workers
  4. Lower maintenance and electricity costs
  5. Increased lifespan of compressors, motors, condensers, and control systems
  6. Better product preservation and reduced storage loss

3. Duration of Training:
The training will be conducted for 4–6 hours per day, with a total duration of 96 hours, including 22 hours of theoretical sessions and 74 hours of practical and hands-on learning activities.

4. Group Size:
Each training group will consist of 20 participants, targeting only existing workers for skill upgrading and capacity enhancement.

5. Qualification of Instructors:

The main instructor must hold at least a Pre-Diploma in Refrigeration and AC Engineering and have a minimum of 3 years of work experience in the mechanical sector. The co-instructor must possess a minimum of 5 years of experience in the relevant field.

6. Summary:

Cold Storage Technician and Maintenance training equips industrial workers with practical knowledge and hands-on skills required to operate, inspect, maintain, and troubleshoot refrigeration and cold storage systems safely and efficiently. This training supports industrial productivity, food preservation standards, energy efficiency, and reliable cold chain operation.
